I'm a listmaker. I'm an organizer. I'm a laundry tackler. So I combined my skills to get on a schedule for laundry. I've shared this with a few friends and they love it; maybe it will inspire you too!
Monday: Mommy's (mine)
Tuesday: Boy's
Wednesday: Whites
Thursday: Boys
Friday: Hubby
Saturday: Towels
Sunday: Sheets
I do one or two loads a day, putting them away quickly and then am able to move on with the day. It's so nice to get laundry out of the way early in the morning so it's not lingering on my list throughout the day.
And there you have it! :) Hope it helps you tackle this chore in your own home.

Lifelong learning . . .
It's so true. When I was enrolled in the school of ed at my college, it was the thing. The one thing that you could write or say that gave you a pass - a free ride with the professors. LIFELONG LEARNING. I thought it was so silly that everyone threw it around like it was the magic word. The "please" word to my toddler, Flash.
But Saturday I had a revelation while talking with someone new, and when we met tonight, I had another one. And guess what? I am a LIFELONG learner. There is always something that can be learned, applied to life. And so, begins the next course of my life. Wish me luck!

Park/Playground and Beach School!
Following the zoo posting about what preschool activities we can practice while at the zoo, I've come up with some park/playground and beach ideas!
PARK/PLAYGROUND
1. What colors do we see at the playground? How many slides are yellow? How many bars are red? Green? Blue?
2. How many kids are at the playground when we arrive? When we leave? How many swings are at this playground?
3. We can bring our egg carton "I Spy" containers to find different items that "live" at the playground: bark, grass, leaves, sand, etc.
BEACH
1. What is the beach made of? Sand? Rocks? Beach wood?
2. How many rocks can we throw at one time into the water?
3. How many rocks can we fit in our bucket that are white? Round? Black? Speckled? Wet? Dry?
4. How many people are at the beach today? How many were here the last time? *graphing, comparing*
5. Again, bringing our egg carton "I Spy" containers, what can we find at the beach?

Zoo School
So here's a few ideas I have for doing preschool-esque lessons with Flash now that most of his buddies are starting at a real preschool this fall.
My thought today is about the zoo. We have a year-long membership, so why not go on a weekly field trip and discover different traits of the zoo?
1. We can go count how many of each animal there are in each area of the zoo and record it in our "Zoo Exploration" book. Other counting options: how many legs does that animal have? How many wings? *writing numbers, counting*
2. I can have Flash draw each animal and see if he can name the colors (again, in the "Z-E" book). *colors, art*
3. Flash can read the zoo map to find our way to which animal he'd like to see next. *map skills, directions (left and right)*
4. Working together, we can talk about the different habitats that each animal lives in and the reasons why they live in that environment.
5. Maybe we could ask a zoo keeper (or try to make it to the different "animal talks") what each animal eats for meals and see if there's similarities between what the animals eat and what we eat. *matching*

Cupping . . .
I just got home from my first ever cupping massage. Look it up; it's pretty amazing. But I think I need to keep downing water like it's going out of style, because a headache is creeping in.
Getting back into the groove . . .
There were a few days last week where I couldn't seem to get anything together. This week, I've started fresh. Rising when my husband does, getting the chores started before Little Chef's first nap, and it feels great to have the rest of the day chore-free. I feel so much more normal.
Now, to the reason why I've been getting up with the sun. My sweet niece will be joining us five days a week in about two months and will be dropped off early. I am preparing myself now so that when I start, I've already got my rhythm and groove down pat. I want this to be an easy transition for all of the parties involved, and so up I get to start the laundry, unload the dishes, and start my day!
Have a great week!

is it too much?
I am really struggling to find the balance with everything. Laundry, cleaning, teaching the kids how to be good people, working with my oldest son on the fundamentals, cooking food for my family, keeping up with playdates and friends for the boys and myself, exercising (or trying to), appointments; the list goes on! SO, enter last week . . .
I was dealing with a grumpy toddler and was losing my cool, so my husband suggested I find someone to help me by watching the kids so I can get back into running. Well, I asked, but the only person who could help is busy.
SO, I'm just going to have to buckle down and get up earlier to get everything accomplished. My new goal is to get up with my husband in the morning, start the laundry and cleaning, and then the moment the kids are up, take them in the double stroller for a run on the trail by our home. By the time we get home, it should give me just enough time to shower and get ready for the rest of the day. I know other moms do it just fine, but who doesn't need a break now and then? Right? I mean, everyone, in any situation and in any job, needs a vacation from their work; their daily routines. A rejuvenating, mind-clearing break. Is that too much to ask?
I'm also trying to figure out how to get nap schedules back on track for the boys. Hoping this weekend and the lack of plans will lead to a great starting, nap-filled week.
*Still looking for my nursing cover. So far I've found 6 crochet projects that need to be finished. We'll see if I ever get them done!*

Oh what a night . . .
Wow. What a day, what a night. Today I spent about 6.5 hours in the car with both children. Post office, chiropractor, gas station, mall returns, emissions test on my car, stop at my mother in law's for a sandwich for the toddler (oops: I was the unprepared mama today), drive to my brother's house to drop of new baby items for Fiona, grocery store and work! Yes, I took both kiddos to work tonight too! I'm so exhausted. I got home and passed the torch to my husband, who put the kids to bed. Whew.
Looking forward to going to the zoo tomorrow with a friend and her kiddos, then coming home and getting to work! We're throwing a baby shower for two of our mommy friends on Friday, so I have a ton of cooking and baking to do. But I love it, as much work it's going to be, because it means I get to bless someone (two people) else; get to make their day just a little bit brighter.

The newest member . . . and other thoughts
Yesterday I got to become an auntie again! My brother and his wife welcomed their first child, a little girl named Fiona. She is so beautiful, with her full head of dark hair. I am so loving my sweet niece! I can't wait to get to know her more!
This week has been extremely long, as we've had a doctor appointment for my youngest son every day except one, which we spent on the phone with the nurse. X-rays and specialist appointments also were in the mix. It's amazingly exhausting to drag an overly tired toddler and a baby in and out of the car and offices. I am hoping that we can solve his health issue soon and can get back to normal schedules of playdates and naptimes. We ALL need it.
I have extra work coming in this week, which should help with paying bills and such. I'm not looking forward to leaving the house the second my husband gets home every night this week, but the end of the month will bring a GREAT paycheck. I'm so thankful for my job and that I can bring in a few dollars for our family.
Have a great week!

Mumblings . . .
Just need a moment to complain. Reminisce about the good old days when I was younger (middle school area) and certain people were IT.
I struggle so much on the 4th of July, as that's not only the day we laid my mom's ashes in the garden, but the day that used to bring me so much joy. The day that summer was all about. Extended family, four generations celebrating on my favorite island, with the ocean view all around us and the activities never-ending. Now that my mom has passed on and the property we stayed on got sold, the feeling of being lost at sea weighs heavily on me as this date approaches, even more so on the actual day.
I mean, I know that there's fun to be had in other ways on this day, but I LOVED our routines, our traditions. Prepping food the day before. Participating in the race around the island with the locals, then hitting up the parade (either on the sidelines or in it!), enjoying a wonderful potluck of food with the extended family, beach time or football/volleyball/soccer, all to end with cars loaded up with excited cousins and blankets to watch the fireworks. What could be better? I loved how close everyone was, how we talked all day long, with everyone, and played with everyone.
Some days, I wish I could be 7 again. To be free to run around with no responsibility. To be oblivious to the family drama and to just have fun.
I think the hardest part is that I always wanted this routine for my own kids, but that won't be the case. It's a dream that I'm watching slowly drown year after year.
I hope you have a better 4th of July than I am.

Mussmash and other ramblings
Tonight as I was putting Flash to bed, he got a wet one and wiped his mouth. Then he looked at it and exclaimed, "My mussmash, Mommy?" I had to hold back laughter as I tried to interperet what he was talking about. After a few more "My mussmash!"-'s, I finally figured it out. Mustache! He was wiping off his mustache! Silly boy.
My best friend came over this evening and talked about nutrition and meals I should be eating, versus all the sugar I eat. Sigh. I've got a long way to go, not a lot of hours in the day, and just feel overwhelmed again. I really wish I didn't need sleep, so that I could get more done. I was able to get the house in perfect shape today, dinner made (a healthy one too), and the kiddos napped, but Flash and I didn't get to do his preschool work (activities we do together since he's not going to preschool this year). Hoping tomorrow after our walk we'll be able to get down to practicing some more letters, numbers, shapes and such. He's grasped the whole "matching/same" concept and has been running with it. He'll find something and go find the other one, whether it's his shoes or socks, crayon colors or marbles. He amazes me every day.
We went to the beach again today and had a blast. Flash and his friends brought sand toys to share, and boy do they know how to share SO WELL. These kiddos are growing up into such polite little people.
Oh, and the best part of my day? Watching Flash play peek-a-boo with Little Chef as well as "try" to give Little Chef back his binky during an "I'M TIRED, MOMMY!" crying session. He kept trying to move Little Chef's hands from his mouth as well as get the binky to stay, all while Little Chef cried more and more. Flash finally goes "ssshhhhh. no more crying (pronounced cryeeeennn)" Precious.

Zoo day . . . and some creative tidbits
Today we trekked all over our local zoo with my husband's best friend's wife and kiddos, as well as my sister-in-law and kiddos. Three mommies and 7 kiddos, 8 if you count the one in the belly (friend's, not mine, not yet anyways). Had a fabulous time walking around and having a lunch on the grass. The weather was a little much for my liking, especially afterwards. I have a nice sunburn, here on the first day of summer! It's ifne though, it'll be gone soon. I hope the rain comes back to Washington, since that's the norm around here, or at least gray skies. I like the sun, but don't like being so warm. Poor Logan took 2 hours to fall asleep, he was so hot in the room. It doesn't help that our rooms face the setting sun, and the sun is out longer in the day now! Hopefully he'll get used to it soon!
I recently was added to the amazing world of Pinterest, and have fallen in love with so many creative things! Here's two of the ideas I've done so far. My son loves the knees on his monster jeans, but HATES wearing them! I am not a talented crafter so I think he can feel all the knots I had to tie while I hand-sewed the fabric. Oh well, they're still cute and it was fun. The link is: http://bymiek.blogspot.com/2010/10/dhz-monster-knie.html
Here's my little Lucas' jeans:
What do you think?
The second project I did from Pinterest: http://lets-explore.net/blog/2009/10/paint-bag-writing/
Lucas got to do this project with his grandma the other day. She then made bags for the other grandkids and brought them for her babysitting time with them. They loved them, and it's CLEAN!
Guess what? I have two more I would like to share that I've found. Sorry!
Third: http://impressyourkids.org/fathers-day-craft/
This was the Father's Day gift we made for our daddy this year. My mommy group came over and we made these last week. The kiddos are a bit young to do this yet, but it's still a great and QUICK project to do for anyone! Great for grandparents and aunts/uncles too! :) Birthday idea???

Lucas at three months
Logan at just 8 hours old
We tied them with yarn to finish them off.
I know these aren't the greatest pictures. I don't have a high-tech camera. Sorry! :)
Fourth and last, for tonight: All this one had was a picture, but just stick the uncooked pasta through the uncooked hot dogs, then boil the pasta as usual. Lucas loved it! :) Here's the picture from Pinterest, and then mine.

Well, off to get some rest before another day in the sun (so the weather man says). Taking Lucas and Logan to the beach to meet some friends for another picnic! :)

Procrastinating
Both boys aren't wanting to nap today, but I'm leaving them in their rooms to hopefully tire themselves out. I'm really wanting to take a nap myself, but I know I should clean up a little and start dinner for the hubby since he spent all day in Seattle, taking a training course for his job. He's got two more days to drive up there and take classes. Boring to me. I hope he drives safely. I despise driving in Seattle, or in any city, for that matter. Okay, so now that I've said it, I'm going to make it happen. Going to clean.
Oh, and a side note, I'm failing miserably at this new healthy eating/diet plan. Oh well. No one can be perfect, right? At least my sweet husband likes the extra soft-spots to hug. Bleh. Wish I could feel okay about myself. Maybe in a few weeks I'll have a better routine down.
Off to clean!

One of my new interests in life . . .
Today I get to share with my sister-in-law my love for couponing! I started about three months ago and have saved about 50-60% on our shopping overall. Some trips are great, where I pay only sales tax. Some trips don't work out quite the way I planned, but you go with the flow. *If you would like to know more about couponing and how to make it work for your family, there's a TON of great websites to check out. My favorite two are: The Krazy Coupon Lady and Raining Hot Coupons. You can "friend" both on Facebook as well.*
One of the best parts about today is that Flash, my oldest son, will get the opportunity to play with his cousins again! He absolutely loves getting to run around with H, B and J. He asked me all night if it was time to go to Aunt Jaci's house, shoes in hand, ready to go. Sweet boy.
So we're off for a fun, coupon-clipping, family-oriented day! I hope you enjoy yours! Happy Monday!

the end is near . . .
Well, I did it. I emailed the group of women that belong to the group I organize, sharing with them that I think it's time for someone else to step in and manage the group. If no one steps up, then I'm going to close the group. It's frustrating to sit here on the computer, using time I could be cleaning or playing with my kids or cooking a nice meal for my family, to post walks and events that no one or just one person (out of 87 members) comes to! So, I'll wait. Wait and see who steps up. Wait and see if anyone steps up. Wait for the day when I can be done with leading this group. It'll be one less stress, one less time-consuming activity I have to deal with.
It was a great group, one that allowed me to meet some of my closest friends. The group where my son made his first friend. The group that helped each other out when going through chemo treatments, deployments, sick babies and just basic mommy-crap. I'll miss it if it closes, but at least I gained some wonderful memories and friends from it.

10 things . . . and other ramblings . . .
Here are just a few lists that you'll see me jot down as reminders of what I'm thankful for, what makes me smile, or what I need to work on. These three are about the three most important men in my life. Enjoy!
10 things I love about Little Chef (3 months):
3. He hates being alone, just like his big brother and his mommy.
4. His coos are more like shrieks and screams (he's loud like the rest of his family!).
5. His sloth-like toes, and the fact that my finger can pass through the space between his big toe and pointer toe (second toe?) without touching either
6. The way he instantly calms me down when I hold him, no matter the situation.
7. The crazy-coincidence of his birth happening during a snow and ice storm, just like his big brother.
8. His dark blue, beautiful eyes, and the pin-hole size dimple on the top of his right ear. My mom had one on each of her ears. It's just another part of my mom still being in my life.
9. The way he melts Daddy's heart when they are together snuggling.
10. His "lovey" is (most of the time) Mommy's fingers. He grabs my thumb and pinky, pulls my hand to his chest and instantly calms. His other "lovey" is a blue satin square mini-blanket with an elephant stuffed animal head in the middle. Named Ele of course. He likes the satin to be ON his face while he's trying to fall asleep (I go in and move it to his cheek once he's asleep).
*******************************************************************
10 things I love about Flash (2.5 years):
1. His crazy dance skills! He's got some good ones, especially if Daddy's playing his techno music.
2. He's my firstborn, my redhead, my Lukie-Duke.
3. The excitement he gets when he realizes where we're driving to. "BEACH!" "TRAINS!" "GRAMMA'S HOUSE!" "COUSIN'S HOUSE" are just to name a few. Oh, and "DADDY CAR!"
4. The twinkle in his eye when he hears the key click in the front door, signaling that Daddy is home.
5. His sweet comments: "Oh, sure!" "Bless you!" "Oh wow! Look at that!" "I did it!"
6. The joy he gets when playing with his cousins (who are very close in age). Makes one of my life goals come true every time.
7. He was born when I was 25, allowing the family "tradition" (I think it was just coincidence that it happened like this) of having 25 years between my great-grandma, my grandpa (her son), my mom (his daughter), myself, and now Flash. I'll have to resist putting pressure on him to have a child when he's 25. :)
8. He LOVES to read books, all kinds of books, mostly about trains and dinosaurs and Cars (the movie).
9. The love he has for his little brother is amazing. He gets the biggest, most beautiful smile on his face when he sees Little Chef; the best is when Flash hears that Little Chef has hit a sound button on the exersaucer. He comes running, yelling, "Little Chef YAY! Little Chef did it, Mommy! Yay Little Chef!"
10. Routines are everything to him, no matter what it was, it MUST be done that same way EVERY time. My little OCD kid! :) He even got after a kid who came over for a play date for the first time. The kiddo was moving toys from one bin to another, mixing Lego pieces with blocks and so on. Flash quickly returned the toys to their rightful bins and told the kiddo, "No no. No do that, please." I love the fact that, one, I've made an impression on him to be neat (maybe a little too neat?), and two, that he was so polite about it! :)

10 things I love about my husband, Mike:
2. His adorable blue, full-of-teases eyes.
3. The way he still flirts with me, after 8 years together (6 married and 2 dating). I don't know that I would want to flirt with me.
4. His love for our children is infectious. He just loves them so much.
5. His drive to work hard at his job so that he can provide for us and allow me to stay home with the boys.
6. His love for movies, and his willingness to watch romantic movies with me. Almost all of them have had Reese Witherspoon in them too! :)
7. The way he loves my family, and tries to bring us all closer together.
8. The fact that he'll eat almost whatever I cook for meals (I'm not that good at cooking; baking is more my thing.), even vegetarian "chicken" patties and nuggets. What a trooper.
9. That he remembers things that I can't, including memories about my mom before she got sick. These I hold dear.
10. The way he kisses me. I love him so much. The fact that he still wants to kiss me blows me away every day. I'm a lucky lady indeed.

Both kiddos are napping right now. I think the late baseball game last night plus the early wake-up (so Mommy could get to work WITH both kiddos on time) did them in! Hoping for a relaxing afternoon/evening spent with our wonderful husband/Daddy at the local park/zoo having free pizza (from last night's baseball game), kicking the soccer ball around and going on the 5 mile loop that's there. My house is almost clean, though I still haven't found my one purse that I've been desperately searching for. My friend made it for me. Inside is my nursing cover, and it's been MIA for over three weeks now! I can't find it anywhere, and we live in a two bedroom apartment! If you've seen it or have a suggested place that I may have left it, please let me know! :)
10 things I love about Little Chef (3 months):
Little Chef with said Ele (elephant lovey)
1. His sweet smile, and his willingness to share it with anyone and everyone.
2. The way he watches his big brother so intently; it's like he's just dying to play with him already.3.

10 things I love about Flash (2.5 years):
Flash running past the camera!

Father's Day
Happy Father's Day! I'm trying to change my tune from yesterday, and have already started sticking to two of my goals: #1 and #6. I used my time wisely this morning before work and cleaned the house, and when I came home, put things away the minute I walked in. Now the kiddos are napping and I'm about ready for one too. Looking forward to playing at the park later on this evening with my husband and kiddos, as well as a 5-mile walk together.

Goals
I'm a listmaker, so here's my list of goals that I'd like to be working towards (or NEED to):
1. Be more efficient with my time.
2. Fold laundry as soon as it comes out of the dryer, and PUT IT away. The couch is no longer allowed to hold laundry.
3. Cook at least two healthy meals for my family each day. Try to lose weight this way, in conjunction with my exercise schedule.
4. Get my snacking and sugar addiction under control. *My best friend is going to help me set up lists of meals and snacks that are okay to eat.*
5. Read more with my children. I LOVE reading and want to instill that in them as much as I can.
6. Keep a neater home by picking up the clutter right away and getting rid of stuff we don't use/need. If it doesn't have a home, it needs to go.
7. Be kinder to my husband when he gets home from work. He's working extremely hard at his job, and I've put too much pressure on him when he comes home. Taking care of the above goals will help, as well as remembering to not hound him when he walks in the door. Maybe have the kids fed and bathed already, or make dinner during naptime so that the dishes are taken care of already.
8. Keep up with my exercising so that I stay healthy for my family. Setting a good example early on is important to me. Maybe they won't struggle as I do when they are older.
9. Try and be happier. Find the positive side of things.
That's it for now. Maybe I'll add to this list as the days go on..

Day 1
I finally did it. I've been meaning to for weeks. I've had a lot on my mind and have desired a place to composite all my thoughts and the never-ending lists of motherhood and life in general. So, here's to my new adventure in blog-dom. I don't care if anyone reads this, or if people find my writing simple. I just need a place to vent, a place to share creative thoughts, a place all to myself for a few minutes a day.
Today has been an emotional rollercoaster. Started out great with a special breakfast for my husband for Father's Day, followed by a trip with the kiddos to their cousins' house to play while I made cookies for a friend's sons' birthday party. Now we're home napping and getting rerady for the party, as well as for our first trip to the ball park with our sons. Should be interesting to see how long they last (they're 2.5 and 3 months old). Thankfully we live close to the stadium so we can jet home if needed.
Had a conversation with my husband that didn't go well, and am now trying to climb out of the hole I've been thrown in. Emotionally I don't want to attend the party or the game, but since I like to please others, I'll put on what I think is a smile and go along to both events.
Hoping for a more pleasant evening and day tomorrow. The weekends go so fast.
